Even trump is smart enough to know even he doesn’t have the latitude to “openly Sieg Heil.” The mask has slipped so far from right wing faces that his dumbest supporters think it’s now fine to openly fly their Nazi colors, but the heritage foundation and the like (kochs, Murdoch, et al) are trying to slam on the brakes and pull them back from the brink. But this is a runaway train and she may be right that we’ll have an open Nazi party in ten years time. But she doesn’t seem to grasp the nuance of what’s happening.

Your last point, though, def. Look at 2008, look at the support for Bernie. Look at AOC, mamdani. They captured the excitement and won handily. Why was that? Because hey ran on real progressive change. Which people are desperate for. But the establishment, which includes the Democratic Party, will stop at nothing to keep people like that from winning. It ruins their big club.

But nowadays outrage is just currency. It drives our news, our conversations, our parasocial relationships, our politics…outrage is being used to drive the fucking economy in some ways. So there is no more outrage leading to action, because we have been overloaded with fake outrage and trained to see it as normal.
