Technology@lemmy.world•Public toilets in China demand ad views for loo rollEnglish
4·3 months agoThe solution to putting ads in bathrooms is that they can be easily defaced.
Unless China is crazy enough to record their people in the bathroom, which I wouldn’t put past them.

4·3 months agoWhy are people doing X stupid thing that makes rich people richer at their own expense?
It’s the herding and conditioning. The sheeple have not woken up.
So many things make so much more sense when we realize this.

Their website makes it so easy to look up books for Anna’s Archive.

21·3 months agoThe only person I know who says skibidi is 30.
The problem is twitch and influencer-culture, not necessarily young users.
I’d wager a benefit of having young people on the internet is that they at least have the potential to provide value because their brain hasn’t been rotted to the core like most adults.

Selfhosted@lemmy.world•GitHub a possible inclusion in Australian under 16 "social media" banEnglish
23·3 months agoIt’s shocking how quickly the free world is backsliding into fascism.
I genuinely think this has to do with the next generation of idiots taking their place. My generation has been conditioned to roll over like punk-bitches in the face of conflict so they’re easier to exploit.
It’s literally seen as embarrassing to stand up for yourself.

12·3 months agoA rating system like the ESRB would actually be a really good idea for helping parents control what their kids get to see.
It shouldn’t result in any sort of ban or restriction beyond what the parents are able to enforce. The big-name services will have a rating, and it’s up to parents whether or not they’ll let their kids use unrated services.

Technology@lemmy.world•China tells grumps, trolls, and AIs to behave onlineEnglish
22·3 months agoChina actually just sucks. We only see what leaks out because they don’t allow freedom of speech or freedom of the press.
Any nation like that should always be guilty until proven innocent.

Technology@lemmy.world•The Impending CRT Display Revival Will Be TelevisedEnglish
43·3 months agoThere is literally 1 game I can think of that uses CRTs for competitions, and I guarantee nobody in this thread plays it at a level to require one.
Motion blur will always be subjective.
I remember when we were transitioning from CRTs to “flat screens.” Everyone and their grandma wanted a flatscreen.
Anyone yearning for a return of CRTs that doesn’t play that one game is most likely trying to be quirky rather than fulfill an actual need. It’ll be fun for 1 or 2 sessions because of the novelty, and then never get used again.

52·3 months agoIf you’re doing anything risky, then you can’t rely on a service like cloudflare.
They are 100% in bed with all of the 3 letter agencies.
If, for whatever reason, someone with power deems your website unpleasant, it will be taken down unceremoniously and any information that links it to you will be used to find and punish you.
