As an Apple shareholder, I’d just like to thank Microsoft for their outstanding contribution to selling more Macs.

But most users never need to open it because Apple at least tests their OS before yeeting it into prod, unlike this hot mess.

It makes me so fucking angry and sad that my good-hearted father passed away at 74 but this cunt is still ticking at 79, and making millions of peoples’ lives worse.

Windows is becoming so trash that a bunch of my not-that-tech-savvy friends have been hitting me up asking about gaming on various Linux distros. (Just a few years ago it was all “Linux? Haha nerd”.) And the non gamers are switching to Mac at a remarkable rate.
And things have progressed so well that even for the non-technical crew, after installing Mint and showing them how to use ProtonPlus to install and select Proton-GE, they’re pretty much off to the races without much further hand holding.

Seconding Kagi, it’s worth every penny.

Yes, on the one hand, this is a chilling precedent that can only lead to long term despair and national ruination. But on the other hand, line go up next quarter. I think we all know which one Tim Apple will choose.

How much time have you got?

The roll of paper is an interesting idea but where would one actually buy those? Are they a standard thing?

I’m 100% sure we’ll have an election in 2028. The interesting question is whether it will be free and fair. Remember, even China and Russia hold elections; just not ones the incumbent can lose.

Just adding my two cents as a server operator - your comment could have been interpreted as encouraging/inciting violence. Depending on the jurisdiction, operators are legally required to remove that as it can be considered illegal material. I’m not sure where Lemmy World is hosted but here in Portugal it is considered illegal, and the law says that if you’d written it on my server and it was reported to me, I would have no option but to delete it. And realistically, debating the nuance of someone else’s comment to try and talk the media regulator out of fining you, just isn’t something these volunteer run instances are capable of handling. So unfortunately it is what it is with this stuff.

This is grimly hilarious

Friendly reminder that your “legally acquired” library of FLAC files never raises its subscription prices!

Understanding this joke makes me feel old.

Silicon Valley person here. There is a relatively developed tech sector there, with a growing startup scene in Tel-Aviv. So not a horrible place to have an office (from purely talent reasons, setting ethics aside). But not necessarily fantastic either. There are bigger and more developed tech scenes in other countries. The Netherlands, Germany and Austria in particular have a lot of high tech semiconductor manufacturing companies which would be logical for a company like NVIDIA. As well as the added benefit of not currently waging a war against civilians.
Looks very cozy.

Former Apple employee here, hardware is almost never let off campus but software alone can be. For example software engineers working on iOS, like this guy, would probably have development builds installed on their personal devices. It’s allowed but you’re obviously not supposed to let anyone else see or use the new features.

Couldn’t they just restrict these games to be purchased with steam wallet credit only? You can’t buy a porn game on a card, fine. But you can top up your account with €50. Afterwards, the payment processor is out of the equation.
That’s actually a really good idea. I’m not the person you replied to, but I’m taking notes.
