Moderate, 9.5 mi loop
1,309 ft elevation gain
Hiked 8/26/25 (did this the day before yesterday’s post, not after)
Sharing the trail with a section of the Appalachian Trail (as well as bikers), this hike has a moderate hill climb before leveling off for the middle 2/3ds and then descending again. Views east along the cliff faces into the mixed farm and forest below, as well as a boulder field in the upper area.
Looking out from the cliff at The Pinnacle, vultures fly over the farmland under partial clouds.
A small observatory, part of the Lehigh Valley amateur astronomical society, which have an easement you’ll hike through near pulpit rock.
A Black Vulture sits on a rock along the cliff edge at the Pinnacle.
I read pulpit rock and my mind went here;
Great post, and beautiful photos!
Haha, yeah wrong pulpit rock for this hike, also the pinnacle was nit the highest point on the hike, but what can you do. Great pic!!
This is a great hike. When I lived in PA I wasn’t too far from here so I did it pretty regularly. I seem to remember a small cave near one of the vista, not sure if I’m remembering correctly though.
Also it was one of the first places I took my wife of 9 years when we were dating. Great memories!
Awesome, great place to make memories!.. If there was a cave I think I missed it. There was a small side spur that went to a little boulder outcrop that I couldn’t figure out what the deal with it was, so it definitely could have been what was there and I missed it.
I used to live near there! That merge onto 78 eastbound in Hamburg is a death trap.
If its that short merge that you’re talking about, yeah it is. Surprised the hell out of me. Glad the truck saw me and got over in time because I had no clue it was so short.
That’s the one!!! Every morning for a few years I white knuckled that one!
