As an actual Oregonian, unlike the Russian disinformation that has posted so far, this is a good decision. I’m Democratic, but the mere fact that one party may benefit from or be hurt by “stolen votes” is irrelevant. The point is people should be able to vote for those who represent their views.

There are a lot of libertarians in Oregon. Plus, the state legislature GOP is a super dick about everything they don’t like. We literally amended our state constitution to punish legislative absenteeism because the GOP members were denying quorum as a strategy.

It doesn’t really matter… The state as a whole is super blue thanks to Multnomah, Lane, and Linn/Benton counties, but the parts of the state that are red are super, super red.

The Libertarians really have no impact here.

    2020:

    https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/2020_United_States_presidential_election_in_Oregon

    Joe Biden - 1,340,383 - 56.45%
    Donald Trump - 958,448 - 40.37%
    Libertarian - Jo Jorgensen - 41,582 - 1.75%
    Green - Howie Hawkins - 11,831 - 0.50%
    Progressive - Dario Hunter - 4,988 - 0.21%
    Write-in - 17,089 - 0.72%

More people wrote in “Bernie Sanders” than the Green and Progressive candidates combined. LOL.

The article covered why this is important. It’s about congressional and down ballot races.

Sonja Feintech, a farm consultant from the small unincorporated Clackamas County community of Mulino, is running as a Libertarian in the 5th Congressional District, which stretches from Bend to Portland. Incumbent Republican Lori Chavez-DeRemer won the district by just 2 points in 2022 and faces stiff competition from Democrat and state Rep. Janelle Bynum

Two of Oregon’s Six congressmen are republican and there are a lot of republicans in state / county offices the more east you travel.

Yeah, the Libertarian candidates aren’t a factor, at all.

OR-2 is ruby red, there will never be a scenario where a 3rd party moves the needle.

        2022
        Republican - Cliff Bentz - 208,369 - 67.5%
        Democratic - Joseph Yetter - 99,882 - 32.4% Write-in - 425 - 0.1%

        2020
        Republican - Cliff Bentz - 273,835 - 59.9%
        Democratic - Alex Spenser - 168,881 - 36.9%
        Libertarian - Robert Werch - 14,094 - 3.1% Write-in - 623 - 0.1%

OR-5 is a little different. Boundaries got re-drawn to make room for OR-6, and that made it more conservative. Kurt Schrader (D) was disliked, got primaried and bounced out, but the candidate who replaced him wasn’t well liked either.

        2022
        Republican - Lori Chavez-DeRemer - 178,813 - 50.91%
        Democratic - Jamie McLeod-Skinner - 171,514 - 48.83%
        Write-in - 906 - 0.26%

        2020
        Democratic - Kurt Schrader - 234,863 - 51.9% Republican - Amy Ryan Courser - 204,372 - 45.1% Libertarian - Matthew Rix - 12,640 - 2.8% Write-in - 771 - 0.2%

Right? Funny how all the Lemmy people crying about third parties, suddenly stop crying when they realize that this third party actually hurts the GOP more.

Apparently third parties are totally ok if they are bad for the OTHER side. lmao
