Same with me. Well, that in combination with the way they treated the app developers. I honestly didn’t have an issue with Reddit trying to make money, or trying to prevent all the LLMs from skimming their content for free, but there was no reason to cut the app developers off at the knees.

I had already changed my relationship/view of Reddit years prior when the internet connection to Russia was severed for a day or so and so many subs (especially political ones) became fundamentally different. Hard to ignore that. But i just couldn’t continue to give free content to such an awful company.

It seems like you’re being disingenuous. You said you need Twitter to find out about things like the assassination attempt, so obviously you check Twitter, but the concept of checking the news is apparently strange to you.

You could simply open a news site a couple times a day. They all had the assassination attempt up pretty quickly.

You could say the same thing about Reddit, yet a lot of us left there a year ago on principle. Sometimes taking a stand means doing without.

I don’t believe Swift buys her own groceries, or that anyone on her staff takes a jet to the grocery store. That’s just dumb.

I think it’s ridiculous that we have a system where someone can make billions singing songs while people providing essential functions have troubles making ends meet, but I haven’t heard any credible evidence that Swift exploits her staff.

What people mean by AI has been changing for as long as the term has been used. When I was studying CS in the 80s, people said the holy grail was giving a computer printed English text and having it read it aloud. It wasn’t much later that OCR and text to speech software was commonplace.

Generally, when people say AI, they mean a computer doing something that normally takes a human, and that bar goes up all the time.

LLMs don’t “understand” anything, and it’s unfortunate that we’ve taken to using language related to human thinking to talk about software. It’s all data processing and models.

You’re exactly right. She’s not a moderate, she’s hard right. Staunch Republican in every way except support for a criminal. But because of that, she’s not really a Republican to them. Crazy.

Cheney’s policy positions and voting record put her away out to the right, but at least she seems to have principles and a back bone, unlike the vast majority of Republican politicians.

And there you have the proof that all his “alternative to both Biden and Trump” was bullshit. He was only ever a spoiler for Democrats, so he’s dropping out because they realized he was taking more votes from Trump. Those guys just can’t do anything on the level.

I struggled a bit selecting a candidate in the 2020 primary, but ultimately voted for Warren. I think she would have done well, but I was fine voting for Biden in the general, and so happy with all he accomplished.

The two good things about high ratings are:

1. It shows engagement is high
2. It’s the kind of metric that Trump cares deeply about

But yes, polls, ratings, news articles, and all those things didn’t matter, just election votes matter.

Reading what he said in the article, that’s pretty close to the truth. He wasn’t saying that he hates Harris particularly, but that whomever his opponent is, he hates that person and he’s going to be mean.

That’s a rational view, but not born out by past experience. Sadly, there are apparently a huge number of horrible Americans who still think Trump is exactly right.

Hillary got flak for calling Trump supporters a “basket of deplorables,” but in hindsight that was a kind way of saying it.
