Especially when U+26E5 ⛥ is right there, and much closer to the current logo. Add lines connecting the outside and you’re basically there. If we made a font that rendered the sequence U+26E5 ⛥ + U+200D ZWJ + U+2B20 ⬠ as the Fediverse logo, and set it as default on Fediverse web platforms, we could go a long way towards getting it adopted.

A while ago there was a wonderful little mom-and-pop chocolate shop/cafe ten minutes’ walk from my house. They had four different versions of hot chocolate on the menu, at different levels of strength, and the chocolates in their display case were handmade in the store – you could see from the ordering queue straight into the kitchen – and they were just to die for. See’s and Ghirardelli could only dream of making chocolates that good. It was a great little place we would all go for a treat.

A few years ago now, a new Starbucks opened up in that same strip mall. It was less than a quarter mile from another Starbucks in an indoor mall, but that one didn’t have a drive-thru, you see, so they needed another. One of the conditions of Starbucks accepting the lease was that there wouldn’t be any other high-end cafés in the area, so the city, seeing dollar signs, doubled the chocolate shop’s rent. They were out of business before the year was out.

I’m still mad about that.

You know how vaccine skeptics are. They think the COVID jab is a Jewish plot or some similar bullshit designed to kill everyone who takes it.

You’ll eventually go back to Reddit and see it with new eyes, realising just how quickly it’s dying.

I don’t want to ruin the vibe for our newcomers, but… is it? Every subreddit I’ve subscribed to is an order of magnitude more active than all of the equivalent Lemmy communities spread across various instances put together, and from what I’ve read most Redditors remember the API blackouts as “that one time the moderators collectively had a tantrum” and they’re glad it’s over now, if indeed they remember it at all, and mentally group Lemmy in with Linux as that thing enthusiasts won’t shut up about, and yeah, maybe it’s better, for them. For goodness sake, half the content on Lemmy is reposts from Reddit. Don’t get me wrong, I hate spez with the fire of a thousand suns and I can’t wait to see more Redditors make the jump, I can’t help but think that the whole “Reddit is dying” narrative is just copium.
