It wouldn’t surprise me in the least if the moment they lose the election, she tells him to fuck off and divorces him. Privately she’s likely disgusted to find out that her husband is a feckless sycophant who without hesitation would sell out his own family for an attempt at power.
She’s seeing the potential writing on the wall and is attempting to come across as moderate all of a sudden so that when the Republican party purge of MAGA begins, she can hopefully be overlooked by it.
When you’re as big an asshole as Trump, it’s not really motivating for anyone around you to do more than half-ass it.
Fact checking would be piping up to correct the record things like spin and exaggeration, which both sides always do in a debate (correcting numbers, etc…)
The moderators didn’t do that for either side. Their “fact checking” only occurred on statements that were clearly not reality and so far fetched that letting them go by unchecked would be opening them up to a potential lawsuit when a Haitian immigrant gets murdered by a MAGA moron.
And those DANGEROUS lies were coming entirely from one side.
Because when you let perfect become the enemy of good, you end up with neither.

I doubt they’ll be public about it, but I doubt Bush is voting for Trump. I can’t for the life of me remember how many other living republican ex presidents there are, but if any are still kicking, I doubt any of them (being old school conservatives) would vote trump.

Trump is being told by his donors that the voting isn’t important because they’ll litigate the shit out of the election if they lose.
What’s important to understand is that Trump isn’t the one in charge. He’s a useful idiot.
Trump’s motivation isn’t Project 2025, or abortion bans, or anything at all for that matter. He has no principles. He agrees with the last person who spoke with him. That’s how his brain works. What Trump cares about is having the power to pardon himself and make all of his criminal charges go away.
So a bunch of fundies see an opportunity. THEY have an agenda. THEY have a plan. THEY tell Trump, WE WILL get you into power by hook or by crook. We’ll pay for your campaign because we know you’re broke. We’ll get our people in place everywhere we can. From a vote perspective, you’re going to lose this election…WE are your only chance to avoid prison and (potentially worse) no longer being useful to Putin and falling out a high window.
Trump is golfing not because he’s given up. But because a) he’s miserable and has no interest in being the president, but he has no choice if he wants to avoid prison. and b) He honestly believes he doesn’t need the votes because his “people” (who he’s stupid and egotistical enough to think that HE controls rather than the other way around) have it wrapped up for him.
Even Fox News is hanging up on him when gets ranting during his regular Fox and Friends morning call.
If we paint all conservatives with the same brush, we alienate the few (or maybe not as few as we think) to never consider something different.
You’re preaching to the choir on that point. In fact I got positively roasted a while back for saying essentially the same thing.
The only thing I would say is that I was referring specifically to voters themselves; those conservative leaning non-voters that may not see themselves in the current republican party.
Incidentally, its a belief that was validated by the addition of Tim Walz to the ticket since that’s exactly what his presence is meant to do.
But once those conservatives identify as not just conservatives, but as republicans, there is very little hope in changing their mind unless they’re already predisposed to having it changed.
Every single one of us, as kids, learned the concept of “garbage in, garbage out”; most likely in terms of diet and food intake.
