I only ever see it the other way, progressives complaining about democrats not being pure enough, not being hardcore enough, while they don’t have to go actually campaign and win votes in those areas to understand why the democrats have to moderate themselves to appeal to actual voters.

Ranked choice voting is actually one of the fundamental reforms that could lead to Citizens United, and campaign finance reform even, anti-offshoring laws, all sorts of things that are currently off limits to think about even. Once a third party starts being viable in larger and larger areas, it’ll change the landscape completely.
Dems are the only party that’s supported it, they’ve been working on getting it statewide in places that can, now they’re bringing it to a national scope. And the only thing they have to gain is possibly being usurped by a third party for real. Sooo this is one of the perfect examples of the Democrats not being evil at all, actually being progressive at their core, albeit limp-wristed for the past few decades. They are not your enemy, they should be part of your tent if you want to grow it.

I remember in the 80s my dad having a Ducks Unlimited sticker on his truck. I asked him what it meant, and he said “conservatism is about conservation, because we all want to keep America’s natural beauty.” Compare that to today, we’re past the tipping point on so many things because they just refuse to allow the country’s rich to lose a cent to remediating our mess. In a movie, this would be an implausible timeline.
They’re shifting work that all has to do with education onto a bunch of departments that don’t do education work, which will cause massive reduplication of efforts while results are diminished. America’s public school system was once the envy of the world, when we invested in ourselves and our strong welfare state, our social democracy. It’s what put us ahead and made us the superpower we once loved, but now half of America hates and wants to tear down. Everyone benefits from strong public education, society benefits, that’s why we have a government to begin with. If you want to just be lawless, go somewhere else, that’s not America.
Weak minds enjoy authoritarianism. They like having a Strong Daddy to tell them what to do, what to believe. To them, this translates to law and order. They want the whip so everyone else gets it too.
I’m still like 99% sure Trump doesn’t know what “fascist” or “socialist” mean and he thinks other leaders will understand that it’s Just Television either way. So this doesn’t really mean much one way or another to him, ideologically.

Social media has mostly divided and isolated us. Twitter and some other platforms have been useful communications channels during unrest. But there could be other forms of communication just for that, since it’s all owned by billionaires now anyway, we need to stop imagining them as reliable tools.
