Thank you again for helping me understand a little better. 😁

2·4 months agoThis is why I asked if anyone could clarify for me. Thank you for explaining in a more natural manor, the language used to write these proposals is often confusing for me.
With your clarification, it definitely seems to me like the protections in place should stay there. Maybe there are issues with some of these companies, but I don’t think removing these particular protections will change the issues I see, just stifle open speech.

1·4 months agoThis is exactly why I asked if anyone could clarify for me, I didn’t understand what was really being put on the political table here. Thank you for elucidating, the language used to write these proposals is often confusing for me. I understand that’s often done purposely by the people submitting such legislation, so I usually have to find someone who can understand it better then I can.

61·4 months agoAnswering my own question, it seems that “Sunset acts” are a common occurrence in legislation that end programs and activities that have more or less run their course or stopped being effective or meaningful.
The reason this Sunset Act is being mentioned is…
Section 230 of the 1996 Communications Decency Act was created to protect early internet platforms from lawsuits over user-generated content, a safeguard widely seen as essential to the internet’s development. As social media companies have become some of the nation’s most powerful and influential corporations, critics have questioned whether that protection should remain.
… so my understanding is that this Sunset will remove some outdated protections from social media platforms, effectively forcing them to adapt with better policies and practices or open themselves up to litigation.

3·4 months agoSince the text of this bill almost exclusively “strikes” sections of other, preexisting legislation, I can’t quite tell what it really does without trying to locate and read each of the other pieces of legislation. Does anyone have a quick summery of what effect this proposal would have if passed?

No Man’s Sky is chill and easy to pickup/putdown, Minecraft as well. I’m sure other titles would work as well.

7·1 year agoI loved Deus Ex Human Revolution, it was my intro to the series and still one of my favs. I woild also recommend something a little more sandbox, like Minecraft or Lightyear Frontier, just for the sheer time sink these games can be. Farming and building can make you lose track of hours at a time, great for travel.
I could also recommend something like Be my Hoard. Trying to get over an hour on a run is a fun way to burn an hour, if you like rouge-lite styles.
If you like driving, something like American Truck Simulator or Euro Truck Simulator is another great time sink.

831·1 year agoYeah, not surprised at the Orange Blunder finding a way to bring back slavery. Oh his cronies will think up a different name for it, but soon these poor people will be segregated and counted as ⅗ of a person for purposes of population counting when drawing up political districts.
At this rate we are going to end up with Civil War 2 Electric Boogaloo before Christmas…
Edit: Correction of fractions, the historical amount was ⅗, not ⅕.

210·1 year agoProtesting is not treason. Treason is the reason for the protests.
Oh no, that depends on the bus. Long trips, the guards want comfort. Those buses usually have AC, maybe not pointed at the prisoners but at least the bus is cool in general. Short trips though, where the guards are up front and prisoners in the back and separate? Total crap shoot. I know this from some personal experience in the NYS system.
Having been in chains on a couple of these buses during my life, I can say this much from personal experience.
In NY, you get food when your prison bus ride is more then a few hours long. We would get a paper bag with two ‘sandwiches’, a couple greasy cookies/biscuts ( I couldn’t tell for sure), and two little cups of juice. The ‘sandwiches’ where two slices of bread, some mystery deli meat, and some cheese. I do not recommend trying the recipe with the ingredients they use.
Didn’t matter how far you where going, that was one bag per trip per person. The trips going long distance where on converted or custom built tour buses. The seats are like what you’ll find in any city bus, hard with a layer of fabric over it for the barest bit of cusion. These prison buses usually had a bathroom, but you where told it was for peeing only.
There is anouther factor as well. For the vast majority of non-guard riders, you are chained to another person not of your choosing, for the duration of the ride. Even if one of you needs to use the small single occupant bathroom. I was, in a sense, lucky. I am a large person, and the handcuff-style leg chains would not fit on me, no matter how they tried my legs where just too large and thick and only bone or muscle, so not squishy like I saw some guys who had mostly thick fat on their legs. So instead, I got what the guards jokingly called the “elephant chains”, just a single chain passed around my ankles and padlocked shut so I couldn’t get out. But, it meant I didn’t have a ‘partner’. I could have used the bathroom by myself (although I didn’t, since in handcuffs I didn’t think anyone would aim very well) and I had a seat all to myself, since everyone else was already forced to buddy up.
There was no entertainment, but while the windows are very heavily tinted, you can see out of them from the inside, so at least it’s possible to watch what’s going by. That is either a blessing or a curse, depending on the person.
And yes, we where told no talking.

I’m shocked that any physical products ever got into the hands of the people who wanted then, I thought for sure it was a total scam. Apparently I was right, just not in the way I had thought.
