This isn’t as simple as a lot of people want it to be. Going neutral isn’t a slight. It’s not misgendering. It’s a way to avoid accidentally making an error even with the best of intentions.

There’s a reason many trans spaces in Lemmy require listed pronouns, it removes the guesswork and you can reference inline.

If you’re using gendered pronouns for most cis people but then specifically degendering trans people it’s going to eventually rub people the wrong way. People aren’t going to care if you make an error while being well intentioned, especially if you ask for more information and correct yourself going forward.

Point is that avoiding gendering text has been and will continue to be the safer option for general purpose writing.

I do the same, but if someone’s gender is known it’s really not hard to use one of their preferred pronouns.

I don’t think that’s being the ‘thought police’ and it’s certainly not something to focus on instead of hate speech, we can do both.

that external opinion is usually either bigotry or supporting US empire from my experience. Other Lemmy spaces are just as likely to ban for wrongthink ie: not being pro genocide or whatever war libs are supporting this time.

hexbear is heavily transfem and bans aggressively for misogyny/transphobia. Spending some time there when their recent domain crisis defederated from the rest of Lemmy was actually quite relaxing

America has already constructed such an effective social murder state that you can pretty readily enact a final solution simply by cutting people off from financial supports.

The status quo is the system unpersons and kills you by neglect if you can’t make rent. This development is an escalation for sure, but it’s just the mask slipping, the senseless cruelty has been there all along.

Be outraged at this, but also please get involved helping people who are uhoused where you live, with money, food, supplies, whatever you can.

It’s not appeasement, it’s diplomacy. the kind of wars that don’t end with diplomacy are the ones where we all end up dead as a result.
