1·2 months ago@seraphine @technocrit the cookie banner is often now a “accept or leave” button, similar to how this sounds. Or “accept or pay”, commonly.
I never accept.

Technology@lemmy.world•Microsoft Office has been renamed to “Microsoft 365 Copilot app”
2·2 months ago@glitchdx hmm. I’ll have to look into it. Most of the companies I work with are locked into office so I may be stuck with it but it’d be lovely to get rid.
@Gsus4 @TheBat the more worrying thing is how many times it has made something up that nobody has spotted because it looks normal.
Proofreading spots spelling/punctuation/formatting issues. You need a deeper copyedit, not just a scan, to check the sense of something. And that won’t necessarily catch factually untrue, but perfectly plausible, things.

8·2 months ago@tehn00bi @Drusas always seemed like a bad road when Facebook et al managed to convince governments everywhere not to treat them like publishers in legislation. They choose what stories people see, and make money off people seeing them. What’s a publisher again?!
My local newsagent is subject to more laws about where they put the porn mags and display cigarettes than social media platforms are about who they show extremist content to.

Technology@lemmy.world•Librarians Are Tired of Being Accused of Hiding Secret Books That Were Made Up by AI
1·2 months ago@Holytimes wooooah.
I thought voice controls not understanding women or accents was bad enough, but I forgot those things have eye trackers now. They haven’t allowed for different eye shapes?!?!
Insane.

8·2 months ago@NikkiDimes @Wlm racism is about far more than tone. If you’ve trained your AI - or any kind of machine - on racist data then it will be racist. Camera viewfinders that only track white faces because they don’t recognise black ones. Soap dispensers that only dispense for white hands. Diagnosis tools that only recognise rashes on white skin.

82·3 months ago@return2ozma so they crash 12* more than human drivers, even though they currently *have* human drivers?! The AI makes human drivers 12* worse. Cool.
@IronBird @mirshafie did you use a comma where you should have used a semicolon there on purpose

2·3 months ago@Rooster326 @xenomor not just SEO; also the blogs are paid for with inline ads so you need enough text to fit the ads in *and* a forced scroll through them to satisfy the view counters, plus you can’t copyright a list of ingredients but you CAN copyright the text around a recipe so this is all a method of claiming authorship (not that that will stop the AI scrapers).

2·4 months ago@hotdogcharmer It’s not that they’re not used about men, it’s that people don’t consider likeability in men as an important factor when determining their competence as a leader. And in terms of aggression: men who are “aggressive” are “strong leaders”. Women who are “aggressive” are “unlikeable”. These terms work together. Aggressive can be used about both but it is only a pejorative for one.
@RedstoneValley @Buffalox Marie Le Conte left X and joined Bluesky ages ago. She’s mostly trying to make the point to some of her fellow journalists who are ridiculously clay-footed and don’t seem to have realised that they haven’t “made themselves a nice little corner of X”, they’re just swimming in fascist waters now.
