Well, consider me corrected. I remember that race being much closer than it was. I guess I forgot that he came off of the G.W. Bush presidency so it makes sense that there was a huge shift towards the left.

I never said that, but have fun arguing with the strawman you worked so hard to build up.
So I guess your excuse if AOC or whatever female candidate the DNC happen to trot out next loses to the next guy, be that JD Vance, some other MAGA nutjob, or even Trump taking a shot at a third term, is that she isn’t charismatic or authentic, is that right?
No, no, it couldn’t possibly be because America has a misogyny problem. I mean, never mind the fact that black men earned the right to vote before any woman did, that’s not relevant at all. History never repeats itself. I’m sure those basement dwelling neckbeards and macho-man wanna-bes will TOTALLY sign on to canvas for AOC. I’m sure her being a woman will not be a factor at all, people will be so enamored with her great policy that they will forget about it entirely!
How many black candidates lost to white candidates in a post-primary presidential race?
That’s right, zero.
How many female candidates have lost to male candidates in a post-primary presidential race?
Two, or in other words, all of them.
You can make an argument to say that there was racist gatekeeping back when Obama was running, and that was absolutely true, but we never actually had a situation where a political party fronted a black man and lost. We actually do have data that shows that America rejected a female presidential candidate twice. I’m going to go out on a limb here and say that America simply isn’t socially developed enough to be capable of looking past the misogyny and we should take that into consideration if our goal is to win.
This is the realistic take. Racism is bad enough in this country that we just barely squeaked Obama into office as a half-black man. Misogyny is way more widespread. Spend about 5 minutes in an online game chat room and you’ll see what I mean. Not to mention the manosphere/blackpilling are actually growing movements rather than shrinking.
I think AOC is great and that she would make a fine administrator, but let’s keep her in congress for now where she can still do a lot of good for the progressive cause. There’s no need to put someone who the right has spent years building up as the antichrist boogeyman as the frontrunner when we already have a poor track record of prominent female politicians losing the presidential race to the most embarrassingly unqualified candidate in American history.

I am so glad this guy is scaring the everloving fuck out of the right and the DINOs. I want a legion of folk just like him to run for office in every state and every office so we can sweep away the remnants of the old guard.
Furbag@lemmy.worldto politics @lemmy.world•To fight Trump's funding freezes, states propose a new gambit: Withholding federal payments31·3 days agoSo true. What we are experiencing now is the “new normal”, and electing Joe Biden proved that we can’t restore sanity just by voting a democrat in office. Every time we get a conservative from now on, we should expect more of this wacky Trumpian bullshit, even if Trump isn’t at the helm.
There are, as you said, only two way of actually fixing the problem. All-out civil war, which nobody really wants and may not culminate in actually winning, or untethering ourselves from the minority party currently running the failed state by seceding, preferably peacefully. That presents it’s own unique challenges and problems, but it’s by far a better solution than continuing to course correct the sinking ship like we are now. We will only drown with the captain and his crew of morons who intend to go down with the ship.

So what are they going to do if someone fires back with this? Deny their visa because they didn’t agree to be spied on by a few of the worst companies on planet fucking earth? Is the government going to be able to somehow make me prove that I don’t have social media?
We have the stupidest people in charge right now.

I hate this political party so much. Not as much as the Republican party, but enough to make me want to quit following politics because it seems like nothing will ever meaningfully change.

I don’t want these fucking dinosaurs running the goddamn party anymore. I want some progressives with teeth who have the backbone to fight the fascists head on. I don’t care how petty or how low they have to get, I want to see them at least try.

You cannot have it both ways, Trump. Either it’s easy to come here and get papered up and nobody gets deported (and he loses his ultimate scapegoat), or it’s just as hard as it is now and we deport everyone working the fields and starve.

Apparently you can just snatch people off the street while saying the magic words “I’m with law enforcement” and no consequences will come of it.
Would not be surprised to learn down the road that dozens of people have been kidnapped and are being held somewhere other than an El Salvadorian gulag having who knows what done to them.

If the new standard is for Republicans to cast doubt on the legitimacy of every election, except for the ones they win, then we should, at the very least, be scrutinizing every single aspect of the election. Refuse to concede, demand recounts, hand tally the electronic ballots, search up and down and under every rock for evidence that the other side is guilty of some foul play.
Because if they had done that in the first place, they might have uncovered shit like this before it was too late to stop the wrong candidate from getting inaugurated. If they had bothered to put up a fight instead of maintaining decorum that the Republicans never bother to show, maybe they would have discovered what many of us already suspected - that Elon Musk somehow tampered with the voting machines to swing the election in Donald Trump’s favor in key swing states. They practically admitted as much on stage, and nobody batted an eye at it.
I don’t expect to ever live to see another fair election for the rest of my life.
So nearly 20% of people living in the United states are illegal aliens? Is that what she’s claiming?
This is what happens when the president goes on TV and says “millions and millions of people are pouring into the country every day” and nobody pushes back on that. They start to think it’s actually true and not just massive hyperbole from a known serial liar.
