There were articles for years about how mind boggling (and the articles were praising, not even critical of) it was that amazon’s investors were content to let bezos run amazon on a net zero or even negative profit model. I don’t think I’ve ever heard of walmart not pulling a profit.
Valve’s not a good guy, but your attempt to “reframe the perspective” is lacking a major detail. If amazon were to simply GIVE you the product after you’ve paid the competitor then it’s quite a different story… yet that’s what steam will do.

I mean… maybe? Any place/website/person that makes the claim of “scientifically proven!” and then fails to link to said science makes me immediately suspicious. Making use of radiation and then very notably having absolutely no mention of radiation dangers or even basic awareness of the levels of radiation experienced… well. Speaks for itself, really.

Had the exact same thought. My visit to san fran was hilarious, because looking across the bay, you could see the sunshine on the north side, while the south was blanketed in light mist and fog. Our brief visit to the north side to see the muir woods was the exact opposite: sitting in sunshine while looking at a dreary, shrouded place across the water.

I know… and I also know that we currently depend on truck rigs for shipping in everything, so the taxes would ultimately focus on them MUCH MORE than even the assholes in their coal rollers. I think if we just tax vehicles at the rate they destroy the road, we’d quickly see folks stop having giant vehicles. Set the standard as a bicycle (and be unreasonable about the weight, so 25kg), and then use the lovely X^4 function to determine how much to tax.
A bicycle (and let’s just say the average person is 100kg, and added to the bicycle’s weight, to be unreasonable again) costs $0.50 to register… while the f350 (found a weight for the lightest around 6000 lbs, or 2721.5kg) should be about $0.50 * (2721.5kg/125kg)^4 = $112347.47. I think that would do just fine. Maybe we could adjust down a little, so the bike could be $0.05, and the truck $11234.75.

Look, I would happily pull the trigger on the execution of a convicted ice, but defense attorneys exist for a reason. Yes, they’re often scum. Yes, they often ‘know’ that their client is guilty (paraphrasing one, don’t tell them you did the crime if you actually did it, it does make their job harder because they do have a duty to not lie in court) yet defend them as rabidly as a junkyard dog with a cat wandering in. Yes, they often posit logic or reasoning that makes the average person want to spit at them for their sheer gall. Yes! THEY GET SOME FUCKING SICK FUCKS LIGHTER SENTENCES OR EVEN ‘OFF…’
But they are critical in a sane world where the law matters not just as a set of rules but also where there are people dedicated to truth, justice, and ensuring a short-lived tyrannical government cannot just throw people it doesn’t like into jail based on allegations of crimes and get convictions based on whimsy.
