And it’s a hell of a lot easier to reform voting there too.

I just watched the clip again and you’re totally right. When I watched the first time, it was like an uncanny valley thing - it was mostly human but something was still really off.
The footage also caught the attention of far-right influencer Charlie Kirk, who argued that Haitians were reportedly eating people’s pets all across the country.
Many such reports 🙄
They’re much more like the Cheney (Dick and Liz) that announced they wouldn’t vote for Trump
Not just won’t vote for Trump, tho, they said they will vote for Harris!
I agree wit both of you - Trump talked a good game for people with little education, presented himself as an “outsider who would drain the swamp” of politicians they have learned to distrust, he “said what he meant” (aka insults and bigotry), and was a “self-made millionaire” (something they all aspire to and believe they could be someday). It was a good grift for the population he targeted, as the original commenter said, angry at industry leaving their towns, angry at politicians not helping. You know what PT Barnum said: “There is a fool born every minute”. He said a lot of other applicable things too because he was a successful con man, just like Trump.
Or the reason. Surely a man who says abortions are because a woman can’t “keep her skirt down” only did it because his wife was in danger, was raped, or the fetus wasn’t viable and not out of convenience or family planning right?
“Let’s say I was the governor, I had a willing legislature, we could pass a bill saying you can’t have an abortion in North Carolina for any reason,” he says in one clip. In another, Robinson says, “For me there is no compromise on abortion, it makes no difference to me why or how that child ended up in that womb.” Elsewhere, he says: “Abortion in this country is not about protecting the lives of mothers. It’s about killing a child because you weren’t responsible enough to keep your skirt down.”
He said that “if I’m a person who is seen as an individual who’s standing on a stage pointing down at a young woman saying, ‘You can’t have an abortion,’ that is not the right approach.” Instead, he said, “The right approach is to come down off the stage, embrace that young woman, and tell them about the reasons why I believe she should choose life, and then ultimately leaving it up to her based on the laws that we have on the books. That’s the reason why we put that commercial out, and the reason why I was willing to do it. Because we feel like that this is an issue of the heart. And if we’re going to ‘win on this issue,’ we’re going to win people over on this issue, we’ve got to show people that we care. Because we’ve got to show them how deeply it affects people.”
How can I trust that you’ve changed your view and not just your campaign strategy? Because this dude has previously stated he wants no abortion for any reason. Watch out for the wolf in sheep’s clothing!
If you watch the rest of the accompanying clip, he’s also lost in his own grandiose vision of himself - going on about how he spoke for 2 hours and they wanted him to speak more, people are stealing his “wonderful, beautiful phrases”, etc. It’s clinically narcissistic.
“Oh gosh, Grandpa Joe! Saying such things!
ushers him off the stage
Anyway, did you see that weird Trump speech with the things on the table?! What was that?!”
I’m so glad she’s fighting back. Pun not intended, but since we’re here, I hope she goes for the gold on this lawsuit.
Me too.
I believe .ml was the first lemmy instance - the one made by the developers.
Wrong. They federated with them then had a big discussion on if they should defederate (you can probably still find it in meta). It’s why I left - I prefer to make my own defederation decisions (and I like Hexbear, and Piracy too).
Source: I was there.
people who are into their stuff like quiverfulls to have more rights.
And by all accounts, these are the white demographic having the most kids, even if white birth rates are lower, swinging the “white vote” by a great margin. Not to mention all of those arian eugenics tech bros…
Maybe each kid should only be worth 3/5ths a vote with all these child labor laws going out the window.
The thing that chafes me more than these things is the fact that this automatically makes the votes of young people who should, by all accounts, not yet have kids, worth less than older people or people who who have kids at young age (and are probably in a worse position to take care of said kids), further disenfranchising young people from voting.
Are we sure they aren’t just responding to the hashtag from Twitter? I don’t plan to check but just a thought…
Many of the things he said are things that Democrats want to do - they didn’t take away the child tax credit (in fact Biden expanded it), they do want to make life more accommodating to parents, they want protections against women having setbacks in their careers because of pregnancy. I don’t get what his issue is.
Will this be her Dark Brandon moniker?!
