  • Yes, he has played a significant role in past elections all the way back to Reagan, and you haven’t noticed.

He’s an intellectual pundit that was on Fox News until 2017. He writes political commentary for the Washington Post; his column currently appears in 415 newspapers.

He won a Pulitzer Prize for commentary.

He continues to appear on MSNBC to this day.

He’s also considered to be a baseball expert who has written extensively on the subject including his own book. Their “baseball fan” comment was intended to be cute, I think.

  • The process of training the model is arguably similar to a human learning, and if the model just sat on a server doing nothing but knowing, there’d be no problem. Taking that knowledge and selling it to the public en mass is the issue.

This is precisely what copyrights and patents are here to safeguard. Is there already a book like A Song of Ice and Fire? Write something else, maybe better! There’s already a patent for an idea you have? Change and improve upon it and get your own patent!

You see, copyrights and patents are supposed to spur creativity, not hinder it. OpenAI should improve upon its system so that it actually thinks and is creative itself rather than regurgitating copyrighted materials, themes and ideas. Then they wouldn’t have this problem.

OpenAI wants literally all of human knowledge and creativity for free so that they can sell it back to you. And you’re okay-ish with it?

  • I think weird and similar thoughts are sticking for a few reasons.

    1. The obvious: Trump was running as the more vigorous and confident candidate and it was working very well, peaking with the debate. But Biden stunned Trump’s campaign and stepped down. Trump’s team seems wholly unprepared for this. Now Trump is the old guy yapping not about policy, but about how Kamala isn’t black. It’s cringe.

    2. Vance. Trump picked a carbon copy of himself (or a guy pretending to be a carbon copy of him, anyway) but when Vance says these Trumpian things they sound well, weird, coming from a 39 year old guy. For a young guy to be saying that childless adults have less value and should have fewer votes is damn weird. But if Trump said it, it wouldn’t even make the news.

    3. I think the article is right in that you can call Trump and Vance weird without directly insulting their followers. But I also think another subtlety is that is doesn’t distance the left from the right as much as other attacks might. You’re not calling Trump Hitler and immediately raising the hackles of a conservative and forcing him to dig in against you.
