I had the opportunity once to see Curiosity modeled in a VR environment as if you were standing on Mars next to it and I remember how very surprised I was at how big it was.
As a fun side note now that you’ve jogged my memory. That same demo also had a model of the Rosetta spacecraft orbiting Comet 67P/Churyumov-Gerasimenko. For whatever reason it was sized so that the asteroid comet was about the size of a cat and I will never forgot watching that itty bitty little satellite orbit around that odd shaped asteroid comet in front of me.

you answered my question before I could even ask, thanks for sharing!
I don’t know who Ann Selzer is, can someone give me a rundown?
great project getting better all the time!
Fuck him up ladies.
god it’s nice when government works for the people occasionally, kudos to the many people who made this happen
That’s fantastic
Here it comes
You are incredible, thank you so much for sharing!
Such a neat piece of software, I remember streaming internet radio (somafm) and trying out different skins on my windows xp laptop back in the early 2000’s and just feeling like the cyberpunk future had arrived. Milkdrop was my gateway drug. Fun seeing it make a comeback, I hope it develops a healthy community and we get some good software out of it. Internet drama be damned.
Same, I stream using the airplay protocol from my Lyrion Music Server and haven’t had to touch their app since they arrived. If they fuck with that though so help me god I will write the nastiest things about them on the internets.
😂 welcome to Seattle, it only happens once a year
Preach it
One of my low-key unpopular opinions is that this is why Obama never accomplished much. Charismatic, gifted speaker, seemed like a great person etc… but not terribly experienced in politicking. Honestly if you compare Biden’s presidency with Obama’s blow for blow I think, hands down, Biden wins on number of things accomplished. He just knows all the right buttons to press to get things done around Washington.
Definitely have to acknowledge the unprecedented pushback from congress that plagued Obama, but overall I think an experienced politician can vastly outperform a “good guy” in a lot of elected positions. It’s why I’m not as stoked about term limits for Congress. Sure it hurts to see some of these lifers grift for years on end but it also fosters experienced people in the role. You think AOC is doing great stuff now, give her 5-10 more years of experience in the role and she’ll be capable of doing way more.
I’m so fucking glad we’ve got a president who can at least handle this moment responsibly. Biden may not be everything people want but he’s not seizing this moment to forward his own personal agenda. I think he is pretty clearly trying to find a more ethical path forward. I don’t think we can say that about all of our past presidents.
The smarter people seem to be saying it’s a mixed bag. She could have dragged the case out for more months, maybe even years. Or she could have seated a jury and done a different kind of dismissal thing that isn’t appealable.
This path let’s Jack Smith appeal to the 11th circuit (I think) immediately and they’re the ones who rebutted her pretty soundly the last time she ruled on a Trump case. We can probably expect a reasonable ruling from them.
However, here’s the rub. After 11th circuit or whatever has their say Trump can appeal to the Supreme Court. In their recent Presidential Immunity ruling there was a long response by Clarence Thomas that included a section questioning the legality of Jack Smith’s appointment. Which is the same reasoning Cannon gives in her ruling. It’s pretty clear that Thomas was signalling that he would rule in favor of Trump for that same reason if/when an appeal got to him.
It’s not clear whether the rest of the conservatives on the court agree with Thomas but it all suggests this will go to the Supreme Court and at least one member has already signalled how they would rule. For the time being, Trump continues to prove that he is, in fact, above the law.
I see more engagement across my Lemmy feeds every week. It’s definitely smaller and slower here but there are real relationships and communities forming. I think the fediverse is strongly positioned to outlive and maybe even outgrow closed social ecosystems. If you’re frustrated with a lack of a certain kind of content on Lemmy make it your responsibility to go create or share some of that content.
Geocities, Myspace, Digg, Reddit all started somewhere. I think any good underlying framework (federated social networks) that enables strong communities will always stand a chance. I really do get early reddit vibes on here.
