  • I just watched in the mouth of madness in memory of Sam Neill, me and my GF switch weekend of movie choice, wasn’t enough for Mr Neill so still doing Jurassic Park week after next. I don’t want to subject her to Event Horizon again.

I forgot it was a John Carpenter film I just loved the Lovecraftian bits, even if my first watch I knew nothing of Lovecraft. Wasn’t till least 20 years later I figured out that cosmic horror was my jam…

I keep meaning to watch Peele’s movies even if I don’t watch much horror anymore. Well some but fewer slashers these days for sure. Always enjoy when I see him in stuff though, that is one fun picture.

  • My work computer had an update yesterday, logged in and my usual browser wasn’t the default. Have seen it a few times. So while I usually agree if it is my usual I change it back to that. I hate windows programs asking to be my default, I know what I want, if it’s you you’ll know otherwise piss off.

So many windows notifications lately for the stupidest crap. I already set it up how I liked now stop bugging me so I can write code. Also if I wanted backups, to set up a Microsoft account my windows install will be the first to know. Otherwise piss off.

Not productive when I get distracted and annoyed.

  • I always thought the 1Gbps was awesome and perhaps a good incentive for other companies to upgrade (probably more the reason since they’re Google and their ad bucks). Recently saw a reason to switch for 2.5, did it then was told by the installer they don’t even have cable that does it. Mean. I did it myself and my stream downloads are quite fast, but it’d have been nice if my provider mentioned that in the first place so I knew who had to run the wires. It was only through some holes, behind the sink / dishwasher so not awful but you td have been nice to understand 2.5 was higher than their techs supported. Also needed a switch / router upgrade. Which was actually quite fun to do and minimal cost now can get a mesh wifi going.

Still if your techs can’t provide what is needed in cables for your upper end least tell the customer first.

  • Probably not what this article means but had a coworker at a previous job give a bunch of suggestions or answers at one point (want to say very small company single programmer is me, few tech support and sales people). One guy gives suggestions based on chat gpt, so I end up figuring out what is incorrect from the suggestion.

Mean I know he’s trying to be helpful but giving suggestions that don’t work is a bit of a time waster. To be honest I’m probably middling as a programmer, I can figure out stuff but not a fantastic one (maybe I sell myself short never come across an issue I couldn’t solve but took time). So having to spend time to go over that just makes me go over stuff I really don’t need to. Quite a pain, as much as I appreciate them trying to help it’s a time waster checking out those options to see if they work.

  • I always get my isp outers as pass through so network is controlled by my entry. I have never bothered doing much with it but it’s nice to have the option.

I used to use a ddwrt firmware for years but eventually my hardware could never keep up with my net speeds and manufacture firmware was faster. Trying an Omada network now seems alright but haven’t added their wifi.

  • Sounds like a reasonable idea for the issue presented. Mean the issue could be on one drive saying the file is there and complete, or many other issues since I don’t know the API in the least.

Yours would be my first guess for sure, it thinks it completed so delete local copy, which is what you’d prefer in that situation, well mostly, I sort of prefer a local working copy but need some other names and the program to recognize thm with then upload on actual save to the cloud storage…I say that and still curse at excel when it says it has a backup copy from a forced reboot, always keep one open heh.

Actually to be fair I hate those storages for that reason so much crap can go wrong without a knowledgeable user it makes things worse. You just hope the program can tell if it did it was done correctly heh and if not then end up clicking the wrong button and it’s all gone.

Local NAS for anything you think you’ll need, random ‘free’ cloud storage as a general backup. Mean I assume the NAS has raid so mostly good without more.
