Actually you used it correctly. The slowdown to 8086 speeds was applied when the button was unpressed.

When the button was pressed the CPU operated at its normal speed.

On some computers it was possible to wire the button to act in reverse (many people did not like having the button be “on” all the time, as they did not use any 8086 apps), but that was unusual. I believe that’s was the case with OPs computer.

Frankly if he was killed by that shot it would massively help Republicans and secure a massive win.

Republicans could pick up another candidate (note that this was just 3 days before RNC), whomever RNC would pick the MAGA would fold, because what they can do, trump is dead and they won’t vote for evil Biden who likely “ordered the assassination”. Non MAGA Republicans would likely come back. There likely could even be Democrats who would vote for another candidate because they believed it was to eliminate competition after “failed Biden’s debate”.
