I mean anyone can call anyone anything. It won’t make more sense though.

That’s fine. We’re tired of all the winning anyway.
Those still undecided aren’t going to change their vote because of actual policy. But some don’t want to be associated with losers - and showing just how much of a loser Trump is might make them at least not vote for him.
That’s a strategy.
Love it. While not all titles get replaced (crowd sourced) just the fact that the thumbnails get normalized is enough for it to be worth it.
This is the way to do it.
all of these features are on-demand
none of the things you don’t [need] (such as user data harvesting, ads & tracking).
Choice of leading LLM models from all the leading providers (OpenAI, Anthropic, Google, Mistral, …)
All threads are private by default, retained only as long as you want and subscriber data is not used for training models
Yeah I think you got the numbers crossed there :D
I think a lot of people start up a server because at the time it fits with what they want to do. Once you realize this is not a job (correct description) you wanted to take on it becomes much harder to motivate it.
As soon as you run a server for others outside of the immediate friends/family circle it can be really difficult to deal with the expectations of uptime and service. Also, some don’t want to ask for help but also take on all the moderation themselves too.
@seb@ioc.exchange publishes the costs for ioc.exchange:
Servers are hosted at Linode and hosting costs are around $300/month. Media files are hosted in AWS S3 and the costs are around $50/month. So in total our running costs are about $350/month.
Unfortunately the donations still don’t cover it.
This is your regular reminder that our hosting costs are roughly $350 per month. In the last 30 days you all have contributed $216. Thank you very much for everyone who has contributed - You are awesome!

Have you? Or have you fallen for russian influence operations?
The ~1500 or so nuclear weapons Russia and the USA have in active service each are mostly much smaller tactical nukes compared to the insane my-dick-is-bigger-than-yours stuff that happened in the 60s.
Most nukes are targeted at the other side’s nukes. Those aren’t in population centers.
once a nuke launches, it’s over for all of us
No, it really isn’t. Nuclear winter and the idea of thousands of Tsar Bombas belongs to the 70s. Even in an all out nuclear war today using the full (working? - doubtful regarding Russia) arsenals it would be a catastrophe with hundreds of thousands of dead but mostly we’d be continuing on as before afterwards.
I grew up during “duck and cover” and iodine in the cupboard. That’s not where we are anylonger.
Sorry, I forgot to make it clear that the point was that your “maybe in the future…” is already the same as how it works now. No difference.
This is how the protocol works.
You only get content from those you follow (in your home feed).
Your server’s local feed will contain all posts made by users on your server.
Your server’s global feed will contain all posts from users someone on your server follows.
Note how #3 isn’t actually a global feed. Spin up your own server at home and it will be the same as your home feed when you’re the only users.
Even if you federate with Threads, there’s simply no way for them to “inject ads” into any of these feeds.
You don’t get posts from accounts you don’t follow. My server’s global feed only includes posts from accounts people on my server follow.
Just claiming “it will” is not a counter argument. That’s not how the protocol works.
I follow many Threads accounts.
/literally one more than no one
No, not bold. You don’t get posts from accounts you don’t follow.
Creating ads as if they are from a person would get Threads instabanned in the EU.
Ads don’t federate.
I pay 25EUR for a family subscription. Unlimited queries. Also means the risk of family members downloading malware (through paid ad results) is a lot lower.
There will always be those who offer things for free, always has been. Granted, we might’ve gotten used to higher quality (paid for by ads) and will need to “settle” for lower quality if we don’t pay with money - but I think for humanity’s sake this is something that needs to be done.
No.
Climate change is real. We’re currently causing changes that otherwise wouldn’t have happened/wouldn’t have happened as quickly.
But neither are we going extinct nor is the planet in any danger.
Let’s keep to the science.
