+1 for cloudflare tunnels. But if you want to host locally, nginx proxy manager has a very intuitive gui you’ll be able to host your sites on.

Example:

Docker container exposes port 8989 for sonarr. Nginx proxy manager entry will be: Sonarr.mydomain.com > http://192.168.0.50:8888/ There’s a setting to allow ssl for your domain.

In your domain registrar, just put the a record for sonarr.mydomain.com to the local IP of nginx proxy manager, in this case let’s assume it’s the same IP as sonarr.

So now in your house your computer calls the domain, your dns server responds with 192.168.0.50. That’s the IP of your proxy.

Your proxy gets your request. Sees you’re trying to access sonarr, and passes your query along to it.

But like I said, cloudflare tunnels removes ALL of this and even supports google / azure SSO to keep you secure and keep logins convenient.

Tonight I spent the time spinning up a silverbullet instance and converting the PDFs to .md files. You’re right, PDFs aren’t searchable and will be a pain as the database grows.

Yes in zero trust > access controls > applications you can specify a web site and then tell it how you want it protected. In its most basic form you can have it email you a login code, but if you link it to either google or Microsoft you can have users of those services use them allowing you to sso straight through.

You can also specify a wildcard *.mydomain.net and then by default anything that is in your domain will be protected. Means when you’re testing something new you won’t forget to lock it down.

You’re correct about media, I use nginx proxy manager for emby, but everything else goes through the tunnels

As for configuring, the cloudflare LLM bot has been trained on all its documentation so it’s one of the few times a chat bot is genuinely useful.

Cloudflare tunnels is a great way to expose services on your network to the web.

You run a program in your server, it makes a tunnel, then you configure it on the website to visit the internal link in your network, eg

If you’re hosting a web server at home, you could have something like:

www.mydomain.net > http://192.168.1.55:8080/

You can also have cloudflare protect access to that website with email verification, google / Microsoft accounts etc.

It’s a lot to learn, but it’s very handy once you get the hang of it.

I use the standard plug in charger at home. I get 12kw (45 miles) in my 7 hour off peak window. That coupled with free charging at work means I never needed to invest in the £1,000 7kw charger at home.

I had a random no symbol on my external monitor that was being caused by its OSD detecting microphone mute and showing an icon.

This certainly isn’t a fix, but if you try to screenshot the icon and it shows up, you’ll know it’s being drawn by the computer and not the monitor.

Linus tech tips recently reviewed a car with semi auto self driving. It can keep you in the lane and at the right speed. He said it’s perfect for school zones because he knows he doesn’t have to watch the Speedo and give that extra attention to watching for kids walking out. I have to agree with him, there is a school on my commute and the speed drops to 20mph. I let the car do that bit while I worry about little (or sometimes big) feet.

Would I trust that system to spot a child before I do? Not a chance.
