Discord is fashionable. That’s it. The whole app is fantastically impractical if you want to use file or screen sharing. It’s just a bunch of gamers circle-jerking each other, which is a perfect way to keep them from infesting the rest of the internet.
Yeah the file limit on Skype is 300mb and has been for like a decade. Gamers are the dumbest fucking demographic on planet earth.

The people downvoting you are the ones who eat up the enshittificaion. Discord is unusable for anyone who wants file or screen sharing. Skype, by contrast, has screen sharing that’s smoother and higher quality, and a file sharing limit of 300mb, all free for the last decade.
But yeah most users are barely computer literate so Discord keeps humming along.

I wish you were right, but you’re not. Internet providers have monopolies because the cost of laying fiber or launching satellites is so high. That’s precisely what the argument over net neutrality has been about.
The podcaster is a brainless douchebag who interviews everyone and expresses no opinion. When I say brainless, I mean he might actually have been lobotomized. Lex has no character, personality, or principles. Just a goofy smile and lots of money.
Do you have any idea how eagerly AT&T and Comcast would block half the internet if they had the tiniest profit motive to do so? I wonder how long left wing websites would remain online if it weren’t illegal for multinational corporations to block them.
That’s an arbitrary metric. What about internet across oceans, or across forests? Blocking content is a question of why and what. Shouldn’t we be able to block child exploitation websites? That is to say, of course we can, and it’s very easy. The only question is whether you want that kind of censorship to be up to your service provider or your government.

There is absolutely no deontological duty to pander to identitarians and cry-bullies.
Yeah, that’s a lie.

Any defense of human rights is a defense of trans rights. I’m not sure why you find this confusing. Maybe you want these rights to be enumerated for pandering purposes?

Trans rights are literally human rights. I’m fairly certain the Democratic platform is to protect human rights. How would it benefit us to focus on one particular niche right among the others, many of which are way more important?
So, to be clear, your claim is that I didn’t say what I literally said?
Here, maybe an analogy will help. Suppose I run for office to fight corporate monopolies. How do I get people to vote for me?
“My fellow Americans, a strong antitrust policy will save you money at the grocery store by preventing price gouging.”
“My fellow Americans, a strong antitrust policy will save you money on Pokémon cards by preventing price gouging.”
Even though Pokémon cards will be cheaper under a good antitrust policy, that’s not a fact that will motivate average Americans to vote. They don’t hate Pokémon, you understand. They just have their own problems, living paycheck to paycheck, etc.
Hope that helps!
If that’s what you got from my comment the Republicans have radicalized you.
You’re upset that I said the f-word @IntergalacticTurtleFucker@lemmy.world
