Hey All, this fall I’ve been putting some Cinnamon in my coffee and enjoyed it so far. What other spices or combos have you tried and liked? Anyone sell specific spice blends?

I adore cardamon in coffee. Also cocoa nibs, cinnamon, nutmeg and star anise and vanilla on rare occasion.

I make a homemade kalua using ethiopian cold brew, homemade booze and a vanilla bean.

In many parts of the Middle East and North Africa, coffee often has cardamom either mixed in with the beans or added during brewing. If you like cinnamon in your coffee, you’ll probably like cardamom. But start with a tiny bit, a little goes a long way. The brewing process is also different than methods you may be used to, but is pretty easy to learn. Look up Arabic coffee or qahwa for instructions.

I had cardamom in coffee once and it tasted horrible. I didn’t even know it was a thing.

I had this with a perculator in an old engineering office, the IT guy would add a pinch of salt to the cheap coffee the company bought. It gave the pot of coffee less of a bitter taste and felt smoother in the mouth

I might try black pepper. Are you adding heat or flavour?

Update: I just tried black pepper. It’s actually quite pleasing and complimentary. Not as nice as cardamon, but it is a solid complimentary flavour.

Dated a girl whose mom used to add rosemary to the brew basket, it was horrible. She loved it. They were from Malta so maybe that’s a thing there.

I use a cinnamon stick in the cup getting the pour over when I have really shitty beans. Remove and reuse the stick as needed.

I like to add some black tea, about a quarter of the amount of coffee. Adds a lot of aroma, while not disrupting the taste of the coffee

When I use a Turkish pot, I add a little of salt and pepper, cinnamon and a bit of cardamon. But generally, it’s great to experiment with coffee!
