Greenlandic officials worry about the direction of the negotiations aimed at defusing President Trump’s threats to seize their island. But they have little leverage.
Trump still wants lebensraum
The United States has pushed the talks beyond military matters and wants effective veto power over any major investment deals in Greenland to box out competitors like Russia and China. Greenlanders and Danes strongly object to this.
That’s the free market’s “competition” in actual practice. Extol the virtues of competition and the free market, while undermining it wherever possible.
The free market is an illusion. But it’s a good one, and it fools most people.
Once people in the west really start suffering we won’t see enough people pushing back against obvious corruption. Russia is just getting there barely and look at everything that’s happened there.
America is just barely getting started
Trump was in real estate. He wants land. Greenland does have leverage. They could refuse the US offer. Greenland doesn’t have the power to stop a US invasion but such an invasion would be illegal. Consequently, a subsequent administration could withdraw. However, if Greenland signs a deal, that would be legally binding.
In another room, Greenland demands a major role in the United States of America.
What the fuck. There are no “talks”. MAGA is starting with an ending and working backwards, just like Iran.
There can’t be a peace agreement with Iran because the whole point is the distraction.
There can’t be any real talks/agreements with Greenland because US control of it is the goal and a sovereign nation will never accept that, ever.
It’s just a long song and dance designed to let MAGA buy time to consolidate power before they just take what they want anyway.
Mexico has agreed to let him have Greenland if that’s something he wants to do. And if he wants a private massage, Mexico is OK with that.
